Date Night Dressing - Summer Sundays

Date Night Dressing - Summer Sundays

8.13.17

Our date night style in LA is fairly casual but we usually step it up a bit from whatever we’ve been running around town in all day.  In the summer that usually means a dress for Glynn and jeans for Cam.  The accessories usually dress thing up for Cam and tone them down for Glynn.

I love wearing dresses and in LA in the summer they are really the most practical choice.  I bought this Zimmermann number because I knew I would have some daytime summer parties and events that would be insanely hot.  Because this dress is basically a tent, it is perfect for such occasions and I’ve worn to many a midday festivity already.  It is super comfortable – really it could probably be a maternity dress.  I like that is has a print but the colors are so subtle it feels like a neutral.  Also it is linen but lined so it doesn’t feel too flimsy, and it isn’t secretly see through – the downfall of so many would be great linen dresses.

You could definitely fancy this dress up for a casual wedding but I usually dress it down with sandals or sneaks.  Or in this case espadrille sneakers – which may be the official show of summer this year.  This pair is an old style from Loeffler Randall.  I’m tall so I don’t really need the platform but I feel like it makes them a tiny bit more flattering to the leg.

This silver Louie is one of my all times faves.  Metallics are always a good idea in my book and this mirrored version has a bit of an edge so its perfect for toning down extra girly items like this dress.  I usually go for smaller sunglasses but I love this pair from Krewe because they are not really that oversized but they feel more full coverage when you have them on.

When we are going out I like to keep things classic and casually cool. A good pair of shoes and a shirt with a collar can really add some refinement to an otherwise casual and comfortable look.  I like wearing a nice pair of shoes with hide away socks as I like the casual look it provides and it keeps things a little breezy and cooler on the warmer summer nights.  And I tend to stick to lighter weight denim and cotton to keep things light and airy.

I obviously love my hat that was made for me by the super talented and “OG” Hat Maker Mr. Gunner Foxx.  The hat Gunner made for me is a 1940’s style high crown fedora that is made from pure beaver felt in a bone color that has been distressed by Gunner to achieve a well worn in and broken in look that provides a little break up and edge in this look.

I've really been a fan of suede shoes this summer, which I am sure you will see in some additional posts. I feel like the suede provides a more casual feel to a pair of shoes that would traditionally be seen as more formal like these double monk straps.  These sand colored suede double monk strap shoes are made by Coach and I think are from a few seasons ago.  I normally wouldn’t seek out Coach for my accessories but surprisingly Coach has had some limited but cool menswear items the past few seasons.

My favorite pair of broken in summer jeans are a pair of selvedge denim jeans made by J.Crew as part of the Wallace & Barnes line which I have broken in over the past few years. The shirt is a slim fitting cotton from Hugo Boss.
