Sorta Beachy

9.18.17

There are so many days in LA when you want to be near the beach, next to the beach and maybe even on the beach for a bit but it is not going to be a dip in the ocean, full sun type of day.  It can be tricky to dress for these days.  You want to be in something light and breezy but still something that looks like real clothes.  Something you wont look crazy in if you somehow end up at dinner in Silverlake at the end of the day.

This Reformation dress was perfect for this sorta, kinda beach day.  I’ll forever be baffled by how completely see-through all of their dresses seem to be honest but clearly I still wear them…  For a warm day by the beach, I don’t mind this so much.  I love the length of their short dresses.  They are extra short which is flattering for the legs if you are pairing the dress with casual sandals or sneaks.

The ruffled sleeves of this dress add a flirty touch and help balance out the short length and plunging neck.  Combined with the wrap, they also make your waist look super small.  Hooray!  Pro tip - this dress is definitely not a good match for the ocean breeze.  I am sure I accidentally flashed our fellow beach go-ers countless times.  Oops.

I have been wearing my new Golden Goose sneakers NON STOP.  I have wanted a pair forever and finally caved.  They just opened a store here in LA and after trying on a few pairs I couldn’t resist.  I went with a super basic versatile style and color combo for maximum wearablity.  The inside is lined with terry cloth, which is amazing – so soft!

I have my big mirrored silver Louie with my which is an all time fave.  It goes with everything and makes casual outfits a little more fun.  I am wearing my all time fave sunnies here too – the St. Louis style from Krewe is always the pair I grab first.  They make them in tons of colors now and I want five more pairs but always think I should get a new style instead...  What to do?

As I have mentioned in previous blog posts fit is everything when it comes to my personal style.  I am a pretty slim and proportional guy so I tend to look better in fitted clothing in general.  I love my tight jeans and fitted slim cut suits, but when the temperature and humidity start climbing the slim and super fitted items become uncomfortable.  As you can probably tell from my other posts I am a huge form meets function kind of guy.  Some of my most favorite items in my wardrobe are military or work ware engineered garments.  I love items that are over built from high quality materials that are built to last and get better with age.

My trousers I am wearing have been an absolute favorite of mine this summer season. They are a pair of vintage 1950’s US Army OG-107 Type-I trousers.  The OG-107 was the basic work utility uniform from 1952 until 1989.  The OG stands for olive green and they are made from a cotton sateen.  They fit loosely and have become my favorite pair of trousers this summer. I even dress them up sometimes with a nice pair of shoes and a collared shirt…  I got these hemmed so I could cuff them up for summer.  I had Lot Stock and Barrel add a little chain stitching too and had them fix a few rips and tears, which I absolutely love.

One of my favorite all time t-shirts is made by my good friends over at Schaffer’s Garment Hotel right here in Los Angeles. Their classic pocket tee takes inspiration from vintage tee with a high cut sleeve made from ring spun cotton. I have a bunch of these tees in just about every color SGH makes them in and they are my go to tee, especially on a warm summer.  The tee fits perfectly and the high cut sleeves provide a classic look.  Glynn borrows them all the time too.

My go to casual shoes this summer have been the Vans for J. Crew, which also get better the more you beat them up and wear them, You can also wash them if they get too funkified and the cotton canvas breathes and dries quick when wet.

My other accessories include a 1978 Rolex GMT ref. 1675 on a broken in Horween Horsehide strap.  My belt is made by Tanner Goods, and my sunglasses are pair of vintage 1960 ROMCO Acetate frames fitted by a G50 green lens.
