Malibu Seafood Co

Malibu Seafood has been a long time fave.   Particularly good for impressing visiting guests – yes it is always 75 and sunny at the beach and we spend all of our days eating extremely fresh seafood at the beach – this is LA!  It is also great for a lazy weekend day when you have no plans.  No matter what time of year, on a sunny day a drive up PCH is hard to beat.

The vibe at Malibu Seafood is extra casual.  On weekends the line usually looks rather intimidating, and in truth does sometimes take thirty minutes are so.  But hey, it’s a beautiful day and the view is not too shabby.  The line winds through the fish market portion of the shop and ends at a little counter inside.   Place your order and then take your buzzer outside to find a spot.  Scattered striped umbrellas provide some shade or you can head to the covered upper level for full coverage.

Pro tip – they don’t serve alcohol here but you can bring your own and the 76 station just up PCH always has ice cold Modelos – perfect for washing down your seafood treats.  The menu is posted outside so you can spend you time in line crafting your order.  They have pretty much every kind of seafood you may want available grilled or fried with classic sides – fries, coleslaw etc – and a few special additions.

You can’t go wrong with classic fish and chips.  The tartar sauce here is tops so we’d recommend asking for extra so you can dip your fries too.  If you want something a little lighter choose a fish to be grilled and you can still indulge a little with the sides.  There are also fish tacos and an amazing tuna burger, which is a go-to order of ours.  The clam chowder is great too – creamy but not grossly thick and heavy.  The 8oz size is perfect if you want just a bit our too along side your main order.

Coming to this place feels like a mini vacation.  Fresh seafood at a picnic table always feels like summer and always makes us appreciate how lucky we are to live somewhere where the beach is always just a drive away.  Cheesy but true.
