Lodge Bread Co

Lodge Bread Co has become a weekend breakfast + lunch fave for us.  It is a bit of a drive from our house but totally worth it for the amazing array of carbs they create.  As the name suggests they make a lot of bread here.  They started out as a little bakery selling mostly their pretty rustic loaves and some pastries and snacks.  After introducing pizza on the weekends they expanded into a bigger space so they could offer their pies plus a bigger menu in general and beer and wine – hooray!

The menu now changes seasonally but generally in the morning time they have a few toasts to choose from- I mean duh.  There is usually a lovely avocado version, almond butter, ricotta + jam or butter + jam, and a cinnamon sugar toast that will put your childhood version to shame.  They serve Four Barrel coffee so you are in good hands caffeine wise as well.

There is also shakshuka, and granola, and an insane cinnamon roll that is really and entire loaf of bread.  It is definitely larger than your head.  And despite even the most ambitious intentions, you likely will not be able to finish it, but you should still get it because its real good.  It is not very sweet at all.  But the bread part is super soft and fluffy and full of cinnamon flavor and the icing, which really seems more like whipped cream, is light and creamy.

For lunch they have a few sandwiches – all of which are stacked so high you will think there is no possible way to eat them with out making a giant mess.  This would normally be enough to turn me off from a sandwich entirely because I do not understand the point of a sandwich you have to take apart to eat.  But somehow with a little squishing their tall, overstuffed sandwiches become manageable.   You have to remove a tomato slice but that is about it.  They are miracle sandwiches!

We have tried the ham, turkey, tuna, and the BLT.  The tuna is definitely the fave.  The tuna itself it not too wet or mayo filled and it comes with a slice of cheese, thick tomatoes, a pile of lettuce and some sauerkraut, which is definitely the secret ingredient.  Such a good addition.  The others have a similar composition, all served on this wonderful seeded square of soft wheat.

The pizza is not surprisingly also bomb.  The varieties for this change up on a weekly basis too but they are all excellent in our experience and can be topped with thinly shaved ham or an egg.  You can round out your meal with a salad or some pita and hummus, but whatever you do, do not leave with out taking a loaf of bread home with you.  They are truly beautiful and truly delicious.  And they make the best toast.  Of course.  You can’t go wrong.  The crust is thick and hearty while the inside is light and fluffy and full of air bubbles.
